On June 13, 2026, Prof. Carlos Delgado Kloos, Director of the UNESCO Chair Scalable Digital Education for All at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid and partner of the MOCHILA Project, participated as an invited speaker in the Training and Technical Assistance Program for the Co-design and Implementation of an Institutional Microcredentials Model, organized by the UNESCO International Institute for Higher Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNESCO IESALC) in collaboration with the Technological University of Uruguay (UTEC).
During his presentation, entitled “Microcredentials in the Context of Latin America, the Caribbean, and Europe,” Prof. Delgado Kloos provided a comprehensive overview of the evolution of microcredentials, their development in both Europe and Latin America, and the main opportunities and challenges facing higher education institutions seeking to implement these new models for recognizing learning.
Throughout the session, he shared the expertise and knowledge developed by the UNESCO Chair and the MOCHILA Project (Microcredentials in Higher Education for Latin America and the Caribbean), highlighting the progress achieved through the Regional Microcredentials Observatory. This initiative collects, systematizes, and disseminates resources, good practices, and institutional experiences to support the adoption of microcredentials across Latin America and the Caribbean.
The training program, designed for academic leaders, technology specialists, and faculty members from UTEC’s ten campuses, combines specialized instruction, collaborative work, and practical mentoring. Its objective is to support the university in defining its institutional microcredentials strategy and developing a roadmap for their implementation.
Prof. Carlos Delgado Kloos’s participation reinforces the MOCHILA Project’s commitment to knowledge transfer and institutional capacity building, fostering collaboration among universities and international organizations to advance microcredential ecosystems aligned with international standards and responsive to the lifelong learning needs of the region.
