The University of San Carlos of Guatemala (USAC) served as the host institution for the 58th Meeting of the Regional Coordination Committee (CCR) and Technical Commission (CT) of the Central American System for the Evaluation and Harmonization of Higher Education (SICEVAES), part of the Central American University Council (CSUCA). The event took place from April 28 to 30, 2025.
The academic meeting was held in a hybrid format, and during the agenda on April 29, 2025, eight academic vice-rectors from the 24 public universities that make up CSUCA presented observed trends within their institutions, innovative experiences in academic management and teaching–learning strategies, perceived challenges, institutional best practices, and collaborative opportunities.
In this context, Mtra. Brenda Marroquín, Director of the General Directorate of Teaching at USAC, presented the development of a pilot teacher training program carried out in 2024 on Design Thinking applied to education, which resulted in the issuance of 130 micro-credentials. She also provided a brief overview of the MOCHILA Project, highlighting USAC’s role in this academic initiative shared with 10 universities that are part of the consortium, alongside Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, the coordinating institution of the project.
Additionally, she emphasized the importance, objectives, and various implementation activities undertaken as part of this collaborative project, as well as the strengthening of institutional best practices related to this area.
